My Artist Statement
Estelle Chong Elements of Ceramics Class of 2022 My work of art is three different size bowls with marbling design all over them. If you look closely you can see that there are linear carvings around the top of the bowl. On my search for inspiration, I would constantly find myself in awe of the marbling designs and decided to go for it. This work was easy to create but difficult to glaze. I was taught two different techniques for marbling. My first time trying to glaze, I used the first technique which was to dip your piece of work in a glaze of your choosing, then quickly swirl your second color while the base glaze is still wet for a marble effect. It did not work very well for me so I tried the second way and it turned out beautiful. The second way was to dip it in your base color(mine was white) and let it dry. Then, lay out plastic and drizzle one line of your base color, one line of the color you want your marbling to be, and another line of your base. The colors came out of the bisque kiln very vibrant and am very proud to present it to you. Hope you enjoy! |
